One Book One Kootenay Launch Event

Fernie One Book One Kootenay Launch a Popular Event 

Approximately 125 people enjoyed the One Book One Kootenay launch festivities held in the Garden of the Fernie Heritage Library on September 8th.  A little chilly, but lots of fun!

Fernie Library Board Chair Camilla Merritt welcomes	everyone to the event	and lights the"Flame of Curiosity"
There was good food
	and guest athletes who were tested with sporting questions and a workout
Mike Rumpel, Hallie Maclachlan and Pepper Sterling		John Merritt, Jean Boyd and Paul Attalla
	then properly rewarded for their efforts.
There were readings by Angie Abdou - the author of this year's One Book - to an attentive audience.
	The Medals were handmade by local crafts people. Books and reading were properly celebrated!
Not to be missed was the awesome performance by the weight lifters....
And a new event - Team Weight Lifting ....
	It all went very well!

The launch events included lighting of the library torch and a torch relay with athletes and children. Abdou, a former competitive swimmer herself, was on hand for two readings followed by a question and answer period. The library garden and parking lot was the site of a ton of activities for kids and families, including an Olympic obstacle course, a weight-lifting photo booth, a craft station where you can design your own Olympic medal and a barbecue from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.
